Additionally, Aecon and Siemens Energy were awarded a $1.3 billion contract for the Turbine Generator Replacement project. Aecon, holding the majority stake, will manage construction services and material procurement. The scope of work includes installing 14 new steam turbine rotors, overhauling four generators, and upgrading control and monitoring systems.
The refurbishment aims to extend the life of four CANDU reactors by up to 38 years, contributing significantly to Canada's GDP and creating approximately 30,500 jobs annually during construction and 7,500 jobs across Canada over the plant's lifespan. The site is expected to provide up to 2,200MW of power, sufficient for more than two million homes.
