What Happened
Gradia, the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium, has been using Building Information Models (BIM) for over 10 years and has now taken it a step further by exploring its use in building maintenance and repairs. In a government-supported KIRA-digi experimentation project, Gradia partnered with Gravicon and XRM Finland to create process descriptions, an exemplary maintenance user interface, and use cases of practical implementations.
Why It Matters
The project aimed to extend the life cycle of BIMs beyond the construction phase, making it a valuable tool for building owners. By having access to reliable as-built information, owners can improve the productivity of every party involved in a project, thus saving money. The project also highlighted the importance of BIMs in fast-changing properties, where having the right information at hand can shorten maintenance lead times and save costs.
What's Next
The success of the project has paved the way for the development of BIM-capable maintenance software. With the increasing demand for digital solutions in the construction industry, it is likely that we will see more innovative applications of BIM in the future.
