Nemetschek and Iowa State Launch Digital Twin for 3D-Printed Housing

Nemetschek Group and Iowa State University have initiated the Iowa Innovative Housing Project to combat affordable housing shortages using 3D construction printing. The project employs Nemetschek’s dTwin digital twin platform to create interactive models of planned structures, enabling real-time monitoring and data analysis. Currently, the pilot phase includes building a 3D-printed shed equipped with live sensors tracking air quality and energy use. Assistant Professor Pete Evans highlights that dTwin allows seamless visualization and comparison with traditional buildings, offering valuable insights for design, construction, and property management. This approach aims to lower construction risks, reduce material waste, and deliver cost-effective, resilient housing solutions for rural communities.
