Humanoid, a UK-based robotics startup, has secured a groundbreaking deal with Schaeffler, a major player in motion technology, to deploy thousands of humanoid robots in factories worldwide. The first deployment phase is set to begin in Germany by the end of 2026, marking a significant milestone in automation and robotics within manufacturing operations.
What Happened
Humanoid, founded by Artem Sokolov in 2024, has entered a binding agreement with Schaeffler to roll out a large-scale deployment of humanoid robots in manufacturing environments. The initial deployment will commence in December 2026, focusing on two Schaeffler sites in Germany: Herzogenaurach and Schweinfurt. This phase will run through June 2027, with the aim of integrating robots into live production environments. The Herzogenaurach site will focus on box handling, while Schweinfurt will conduct capability demonstrations and integration testing before moving to stable operations.
The collaboration is structured around a Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) model, ensuring that Humanoid provides not only the robotic systems but also comprehensive services such as maintenance, technical support, and performance management. Additionally, Humanoid has signed a 5-year supply agreement for actuators with Schaeffler, making them the preferred supplier and covering over 50% of Humanoid's demand through 2031.
Why It Matters for the AECM Industry
This deal represents a significant shift in manufacturing processes, emphasizing the integration of advanced robotics into traditional production lines. For the AECM industry, this could mean a transformation in labor dynamics, with potential reductions in labor costs and increased efficiency. The deployment of robots is likely to affect project schedules by reducing downtime and increasing production speed. Moreover, the RaaS model offers a flexible and scalable solution, allowing companies to adapt quickly to changing production needs without substantial upfront investment.
The partnership also highlights the importance of collaboration between technology providers and manufacturing firms to achieve economic viability at scale. By aligning system architecture, safety, and IT infrastructure with Schaeffler's production environments, the collaboration sets a precedent for autonomous solutions in manufacturing.
