North American companies ordered 10,989 robots valued at $723.5 million in the third quarter of 2026, according to the latest data from the Association for Advancing Automation (A3). This marks a 24.8% increase in units and a 26.1% rise in value compared to the same period in 2025, underscoring the strongest quarter of the year so far.

**What Happened**
The substantial growth in [robot orders](https://www.industrialbriefs.com/north-american-robot-orders-surge/) during Q3 2026 pushed the total orders for the first nine months of the year to 28,984 units valued at approximately $1.89 billion. This represents a 9.6% increase in units and a 13.3% rise in value over the same period last year. The [automotive sector](https://www.industrialbriefs.com/symbotic-walmart-reliance-robotics-risks/), which had seen declines in the first half of the year, rebounded with a 7.5% year-over-year growth in OEM robot orders during Q3\. Notably, orders from automotive component suppliers surged by 90.4%. Other industries also contributed to the uptick: the semiconductor and electronics/photonics sector saw a 97.6% increase, plastics and rubber rose by 67.7%, and life sciences/pharmaceutical/biomedical grew by 38.7%. Metals saw a 37.0% increase in robot orders, while food and consumer goods experienced a decline of 23.7%.

Collaborative robots, or cobots, also posted significant gains, with a 56% increase in units ordered compared to Q3 2025\. These cobots accounted for 16.7% of all robot units ordered during the quarter. By September, North American companies had ordered 4,605 cobots valued at approximately $178 million, representing 15.9% of total robot units and 9.4% of order value.

**What This Means for Your Business**
For businesses in the AECM sector and government contracting, the rise in robot orders signals a growing trend towards automation across various industries. This trend presents opportunities for companies to integrate advanced robotics into their operations, potentially enhancing productivity and efficiency. The diversification of the robotics market across industries such as automotive, semiconductors, and life sciences suggests a broadening scope of applications, which could lead to increased demand for specialized robotics solutions and services. Businesses should consider investing in robotics technology to maintain competitive positioning and improve ROI. Additionally, the surge in cobot orders indicates a shift towards collaborative automation, which can be more easily integrated into existing workflows and may require less upfront investment compared to traditional industrial robots.

**What US Operators Should Watch**
US operators should keep an eye on federal initiatives supporting domestic manufacturing, particularly in [semiconductors and pharmaceuticals](https://www.industrialbriefs.com/semiconductor-solutions-ai-robotics/), as these sectors are seeing increased investment in robotics. The continued expansion of manufacturing activity, as indicated by the September ISM Manufacturing PMI of 54.5, suggests ongoing growth in the industry. Companies should track procurement windows and regulation timelines, especially those related to robotics and automation technologies, to capitalize on potential funding opportunities and ensure compliance with evolving standards.
